Q: Where exactly is the camp located?
A: The MJFS offices and dorms are located at the Tropicana Gardens Dormitory, 6585 El Colegio Rd. Goleta, CA 93117.
Q: Is there a deadline to register?
A: Though there is no registration deadline, MJFS operates on a first-come, first-served basis and usually sells out.
Q: When should I arrive at camp in order to avoid the long line for registration? What time is registration over?
A: Overnight Camper registration is from 12 - 2 pm at Tropicana Gardens Dormitory, 6585 El Colegio Rd. Goleta, CA Day Camper registration is from 1- 2 pm at UCSB Events Center Thunder Dome.
Q: What do I bring for overnight camp?
A: Each camper must bring the following items to camp: Towels, washcloths, soap, and other personal hygiene items. In addition, bring twin size bed sheets, blankets and a pillow or sleeping bag. Basketball footwear, athletic socks, gym shorts, T-shirts, windbreaker, sweat suit, stamps and alarm clock. It is recommended that each camper bring a new change of clothes for each day of camp and that all clothes be marked with camper name.
Q: What do I bring if I'm a Day Camper?
A: All day campers will be required to bring all their basketball equipment with them each day of camp, which include footwear, towel, gym bag, water bottle, etc.
Q: Can Michael Jordan appear at my engagement?
A: We are a separate entity from Mr. Jordan's engagements and events; you would have to contact his agent.
Q: Do you offer any other camps?
A: MJFS in Santa Barbara, California is the only Michael Jordan basketball camp that is scheduled for 2012.
Q: Is it mandatory that Day Campers stay until 9:45 pm every night, or is there an earlier time that they can be picked up?
A: If you desire to pick up your Day Camper earlier than 9:45 pm, you will have to complete a release form. Please go to the camp office at Tropicana Gardens. You will have to present a valid form of ID. We can only release the camper to the parent or guardian who is designated on the camp application.
Q: Are we allowed to watch any of the sessions?
A: Parents, relatives and friends of campers enrolled at the Flight School are welcome to observe the opening day orientation. This session takes place from 3:45 - 5 pm at the UCSB Events Center. Should you wish to observe the MJFS activities during the remainder of the week, we have visitor viewing from 6:30 - 9:30 pm daily. All other camp activities are closed to the public. Please observe these times!
Q: Does your camp require medical forms completed?
A: The only medical information that we require is stated on the application. There are no additional medical forms needed.
Q: Do you ever grant scholarships to people who can't afford the tuition?
A: Regrettably, we do not offer individual scholarships, all scholarships to the MJFS are provided to organizations (e.g. Independent Charity Groups, local Boys and Girls Clubs, etc.) and those organizations determine who the scholarships are awarded to.
Q: I missed the cancellation deadline, but really need to cancel, Can I apply this years tuition to next years camp?
A: Sorry, once the refund deadline has passed, we no longer offer refunds without a medical notice. We do not apply tuition to the following years camp if you miss the cancellation deadlines for the 2012 camp.
Q: Are there any restrictions with what gets signed?
A: Yes there are restrictions. You can only receive one autograph (per camper) of your choice. The following items will not be signed:
Fleer Premier Rookie Cards and any competitor brands (ex: Adidas, And 1, Reebok, etc).
Q: Does the tuition include the transportation to Santa Barbara?
A: Camp tuition does NOT include transportation to Santa Barbara, CA. Campers have to pay their own way to Santa Barbara. Transportation is available for campers traveling to and from the local Santa Barbara airport, bus or train stations on the first and last day of each session. Please refer to Transportation under Vital Information button for details.
Q: Does Michael Jordan participate in each session and will I get the chance to meet him?
A: Absolutely! Michael Jordan will be in attendance on four of the five camp days for each session conducting personal lectures, interacting with the campers, refereeing random games,and more!
Q: When will I know my child was accepted in the camp?
A: Once you apply to MJFS. We provide a confirmation letter via US mail. Please allow approximately 2 weeks for processing after the receipt of payment. Kindly do not contact our camp office to request camp acceptance.
Q: Can my child bring a camera and cell phone to camp?
A: We recommended that campers do not bring valuables such as watches, iPods, TVs, radios, video games etc., as MJFS is not responsible for loss or theft.
Q: I assume the beds are twin beds for us to bring a sheet set?
A: Yes, all beds in the dorms are twin beds.
Q: Even though you guys offer dorms, are youth campers be allowed to stay in a hotel and still have a way to get there?
A: The MJFS does not offer transportation to day campers that are traveling to and from a hotel. The camp will not be responsible for campers who sleep in local hotels.
Q: What exactly will the kids be learning at Jordan Camp?
A: Campers have the opportunity to learn the basketball fundamentals such as shooting, dribbling, rebounding and defense to name a few.
Q: How many campers room together at camp?
A: The dorm rooms hold approximately 4 - 9 campers, depending on the size of the room.
Q: Can my son/daughter play on another team with his/her friends?
A: We do not place campers on teams with their friends or family, as all teams are picked randomly.
Q: Can we arrange tuition payments?
A: Full payment is due when we receive the application. No deposits are accepted.
Q: I have received enrollment verification, but when will I get more information sent to me?
A: You will receive a final information package in mid-June.
Q: What does the tuition cover?
A: Tuition includes basketball instruction, meals, MJFS poster, camp T-shirt, color team photo with Michael Jordan, personal autograph (1 autograph per camper), certificate of participation, player evaluation card, medical care, supervision and more...
Q: Can you tell me what kind of meals you serve for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
A: Michael Jordan Flight School offers three nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) daily. Our cafeteria serves several food selections so that our campers can have a variety to choose from. Special dietary requests can be accomodated - just ask!
Q: How much money do parents usually send with the campers for them to put in the bank?
A: The amount of money that you decide to send with your child depends on how much camp gear (t-shirts, sweatshirts, polo's, shorts) pizza, snacks, beverages, snacks, etc. you want them to purchase.
